AP Biology and Environmental Science students from Westfield Area High School traded the classroom for the great outdoors on April 7 for an immersive field day at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center!
It wasn't just a walk in the woods - our students rolled up their sleeves and put their scientific skills to work:
Stewardship in Motion: Students helped give back by cleaning up a local nature trail, ensuring the habitat stays pristine for both wildlife and hikers.
Microclimate Analysis: Using high-tech sensors, teams analyzed various microclimates around the center to understand how small-scale environmental variations affect local ecosystems.
Stream Health Check: Waders on! Students jumped into the water to collect and identify stream macroinvertebrates, using these "bio-indicators" to assess the overall health of the waterway.
We are so proud of our students for their hard work, curiosity, and commitment to environmental conservation. Way to go, Pioneers! #Pioneers
