Students in AP/CAPP Biology were trained through the Water Action Volunteers (WAV) program to monitor Westfield Creek. Through a partnership with the UW Madison Extension and the Wisconsin DNR, students learned how to collect data on dissolved oxygen, water temperature, transparency, stream flow, habitat, and macroinvertebrates. The data they collect will be shared with organizations aiming to preserve, protect, and restore Wisconsin waterways. #Pioneers

The Science Club hosted a middle and high school March Mammal Madness tournament for students and staff. Inspired by the NCAA basketball tournament, March Mammal Madness requires students to research animal adaptations and inter-species interactions to predict the winners of simulated competition between species in different habitats around the world. Congratulations to our 2025 MMM winners! #Pioneers

As spring brings energy and excitement across our schools, it also brings the responsibility of planning for the future. 🌱📚 In my latest message, I share how we are making difficult—but necessary—decisions to remain sustainable and student-focused in the School District of Westfield. Please read more about the challenges we face—and the steps we're taking—with transparency, care, and continued commitment to our students and community. Bill Harris from Renewable World Foundation visited the 8th grade science classrooms and gave “shocking” presentations about energy. He covered the topic of renewable energy such as wind, solar, and hydroelectricity. Energy from the sun was used to light coal on fire that couldn’t be lit with a lighter. He brought in a bicycle that students used to compare the advantages of LED light bulbs compared to incandescent bulbs. They experienced the energy it took to power both types. It was very clear that much more energy was required to light incandescent lights! The bike was also used to charge a battery that cooked Ramen noodles for the class. His knowledge, hands on experiences, and ENERGY were ELECTRIC! #Pioneers
