5th Grade Students at Westfield Elementary got a bit spooky today when they created balloon ghosts by combining two household materials, vinegar and baking soda. #Pioneers

Next in our "Cast and Crew Member Spotlight" is Linda! Linda's been making costumes for her daughters' musicals/
performances since they were in grade school. She has progressed for volunteering for making costumes for a whole cast and ensemble for Jr. High and High School musicals. She also has been doing scenic painting for years. Her work has received several nominations and awards for various awards, including the Jerry's. Introducing... Journey! Journey is a sophomore in high school this year and he will be a part of the stage crew. Journey was a stage crew member for Beauty and the Beast. Westfield Area High School Science Club students partnered with second graders from Westfield Elementary School for spooky Halloween Chemistry activities. Students explored science by creating oozing pumpkins and eerie potions that bubbled and glowed in the dark. A special thank you goes out to Westfield Supervalu for donating some of the supplies! #Pioneers

Today the "Cast and Crew Member Spotlight" turns to Lydia playing a featured ensemble member and Sophie's understudy! You may have previously seen her as one of the 3 Blind Mice in "Shrek: The Musical", a Ballerina Ancestor in "The Addams Family", and last year as a featured dancer and Lumiere's understudy in 'Beauty and the Beast'. Outside of school, Lydia has been a dancer at the local Revita Dance Studio and enjoys working at the Bed & Biskit Dog Kennel in Coloma. When asked what her favorite ABBA song is, she answered, "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme"! She would like to thank her family and everyone who has and will continue to support her beyond high school. Our "Cast and Crew Member Spotlight" turns to Lexie! Lexie is a junior running the lighting board, and is excited to be a part of the show! Beyond stage crew, Lexie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, eating at Pizza Ranch, and dabbing on her haters. Today, the "Cast and Crew Spotlight" turns to Parker! Parker is a senior in high school this year and he will be a part of stage crew! This is Parker’s third and final year on stage crew, which leaves him feeling bittersweet. He is very involved in sports such as football, baseball, and golf. Parker is also a Bass 2 in choir. Parker would like to thank Mrs. Trewin, his grandma Mrs. Kangas, and his fellow friends and stage crew members for making the musical so fun. We are one week from opening night! To celebrate, meet the latest member in the "Cast and Crew Member Spotlight", John! John is a freshman in the ensemble, and understudying Sam. He was last seen in "Matilda JR"., where he also played as a dad. He ran the spotlight for last years musical, "Beauty and the Beast". Outside of the musical, he likes running, reading, and hanging out with his dog. The School District of Westfield Celebrated Referendum Progress with Community Tour
The District proudly opened its Middle/High School facilities for a Community Open House tour on October 17, allowing residents to view the significant updates funded by the recent capital (facilities) referendum. Held just before the Homecoming game, the event drew a crowd of more than 50 people, demonstrating strong community interest in the first phase of progress made at the district’s schools. Visitors toured numerous completed projects and learned about all the work completed thus far district-wide. Looking ahead, the district is planning for the second phase of referendum projects, with an anticipation of addressing critical facility needs and deferred maintenance, such as updating HVAC systems and controls, replacing lighting with energy-efficient solutions, and tackling erosion and drainage issues at various school locations.

Ron has been designing sets since 2004 for his daughters' school plays in Montello and throughout their high school careers. He has collaborated with Portage High School and Zona Gale Theatre. He has previously been nominated for and won several Jerry Awards in set design. When asked what his favorite ABBA song is, he answered, "The Winner Takes It All"! Today, the "Cast and Crew Member Spotlight" shines on Keegan! Keegan junior in the ensemble, and is also the understudy for Father Alexandrios. This is Keegan's first year doing a musical Outside of the musical Keegan is researching Dinosaurs whenever he can or playing games with his friends. Introducing... Raya! Raya is a senior working the spotlight for the musical this year! Raya was a part of the "The Little Mermaid JR." in middle school and was also in "Murders on the Menu". Outside of musical, she is a cheerleader! Raya is very excited to be helping with this musical. She thanks everyone for coming and she is thankful for those who support her. Introducing... Mr. Cho, the latest member in the "Cast and Crew Member Spotlight"! After 2 years of teaching in Minnesota, Mr. Cho is thrilled to return to Westfield to teach Spanish and help with the musical! He was previously in the pit for "Shrek: the Musical" in 2022, and worked in the pit for musicals elsewhere including Sweet Charity, Sweeney Todd, and Hello Dolly. This year, he's excited to shine in a new role as assistant director! In his free time, Mr. Cho loves board games, learning something new musically, exploring new languages, being outside, AND loves to watch the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes. Introducing... Saydee! Saydee is a senior in high school and plays auxiliary percussion in the pit. She is also involved in band, cross country, softball, National Honors Society, and Student Council. She enjoys snowboarding, wake boarding, wake surfing, water skiing, reading, and spending quality time with the people she loves.
