A Tradition of Generosity: Bowls for Hunger For over 25 years, the Bowls for Hunger event has been a cherished tradition in the School District of Westfield, exemplifying the community's spirit of generosity and commitment to service. What began as a modest service project by the Westfield Area High School Art Club in 1997 has blossomed into a collaborative effort uniting students, staff, local businesses, and community members to help the growing number of individuals and families struggling with poverty and hunger. Initially, the project aimed to raise awareness and support of Marquette County's "Care and Share" food pantry by providing monetary aid and food donations. Today, it has expanded to include support for food banks in Waushara and Adams counties, reflecting the increasing reach and impact of this initiative. The event continues to grow. In addition to handmade ceramic bowls, the event now features delicious soups prepared by our Foods program students, along with contributions from nine local dining establishments. These restaurants not only donated soups but also sent servers from their businesses to help during the event, reinforcing the shared sense of purpose that defines Bowls for Hunger. The 2024 event achieved remarkable success, raising $9,670 through ticket sales, donations, and a raffle—a significant increase from last year’s $7,294. Attendees also contributed 437 non-perishable food items. Over the past decade, the event has raised an impressive $143,875 for local food banks, demonstrating its long-term impact. The event's growth is a testament to the dedication of students, staff, and community members. Clubs such as the Art Club, MS and HS Student Council, National Honor Society, FFA, FCCLA, and WAMS Student Council have played vital roles in its success. From crafting ceramic bowls to organizing the event, it is estimated that over 1,325 students and 120 faculty, staff, and administrators have participated in making Bowls for Hunger a highlight and point of pride for the Pioneers. Since its inception, more than 16,000 handmade bowls have been distributed. Bowls for Hunger is more than an event; it’s a tradition that reflects the heart of the greater community. It not only supports those in need but also teaches the values of compassion, service, and collaboration. Thank you to all who contributed to this year's success and to everyone who has supported Bowls for Hunger over the years. Together, we continue to make a lasting impact, one bowl—and one meal—at a time. Michelle Johnson #Pioneers

On Tuesday, November 26th some of the members of the middle school student council went to Lilly Meadows (formerly known as Harris Villa) to give the residents a chance to go “deer hunting”. This is always one of the favorite visits for the student council members! The residents also enjoyed hunting the taunting and dramatic deer! The students are looking forward to another year of visits and memories❤️ #Pioneers

On November 20th, Westfield High School Counselors took 20 students on a field trip to the Operating Engineers Local 139 Training Center in Coloma. Local 139 is committed to providing highly skilled heavy equipment operators, and offers a comprehensive training program that is widely recognized as one of the best in the industry! The field trip included a bus tour that took students around the 400+ acres of training field outside, a question and answer session in the classroom setting, attempting the backhoe simulators, and actually running some of the backhoe equipment in the indoor arena. We are so fortunate to have access to such an amazing facility so close to home that can offer wonderful future careers to our students. Students were highly engaged during this opportunity and we are excited to attend this field trip again next year! #Pioneers
